Job Overview

UNESCO Bangkok seeks a senior-level Media and Communication Specialist to lead its external communication strategy, enhance the organization’s visibility in the Asia-Pacific region, and provide high-level support to the Regional Director and communication teams. The role involves strategic advising, content development, digital innovation, outreach, and collaboration with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on and develop UNESCO’s communication strategy for the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Draft speeches, op-eds, press releases, and reports for the Regional Director.
  • Oversee content for the UNESCO website and social media, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Act as a liaison with media, UN agencies, and regional partners.
  • Lead and coordinate communication campaigns, events, and training workshops.
  • Develop and promote digital media strategies, including new platforms and promotional products.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication outcomes, adjusting strategy as needed.
  • Represent UNESCO at relevant regional events and contribute to advocacy efforts.
  • Support key commemorations (e.g., World Press Freedom Day, Global MIL Week).

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in senior communication roles.
  • Strong writing, editing, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven leadership and project management abilities.
  • Familiarity with the UN system, especially UNESCO’s communication mandates.
  • Experience with media development, digital communication, and advocacy.
  • Excellent command of English; other UNESCO languages (e.g., French, Spanish) are a plus.
